The music is very ordinary and forgettable. Rajasree plays Ammuthamburatty with grace and conviction, while Sreedevi is wonderful as Makkam. The girls do very well even if one expects to see them disappearing under his shadow.
PAZHASSI RAJA MOVIE MOVIE
Where acting goes, well, as said, this movie was made for Kottarakkara, and he does well, but it is far from being his best. Even Mammutti's unforgettable performance remains unmatched. Clearly, the best one of the lot is Keralavarmma Pazhashiraja, an all-time great historical film, which had the verve, the light and lively historical mood, the music and the excellence that Pazhashiraja lacks. Which brings me to the next point and it is the fact that today while watching all these historical movies, comparisons are inevitable. Pazhashiraja is not the only movie of its sort, and many such movies were made later, like Keralavarmma Pazhashiraja. The history does work from time to time, and it's nice to see the turns even though everything is predictable. Towards the end, it even gets a dark tone which I personally did not predict and did not like at all. Actually, there's more drama in this one than history. First, it is not a complete historical film. But while you expect something particular from the film, it turns out to be different. Pazhashiraja is a Kottarakkara vehicle all the way. But for Jinnah, would ‘Pakistan’ have been named ‘.Okay, so, a movie about Keralavarmma Pazhashiraja, and the main lead is none other than Mr Kottarakkara Sreedharan Nair.Memories: A lakeside Travellers’ Bungalow.Indian heritage homes: More photos of Thekkanattu. There is also a novel about Pazhassi Raja – Kerala Simham by Sardar KM Panikker. Shekhar.ĭo you remember “Chotta muthal chudala vare…” It is one of the best patriotic songs in Malayalam cinema. Guess who was the Music Director? A R Rahman.’s father, R. What made that version famous were the songs, written by Vayalar and rendered by Yesudass. In the 1960s, there was a cinema by the same name with Kottarakkara Sreedharan Nair in the lead role. While talking about the newly released Pazhassi Raja movie, let us not forget the earlier one. The link is Thomas Baber's account of the death of the Pazhassi Rajah, from the study reports by Nick Balmer It is interesting reading. Nick Balmer, the great great grandnephew of Thomas Henry Babar maintains a blog, Malabar Days, which gives some authentic accounts about Pazhassi Raja. He is reported to have said about the raja ‘ great man and a great warrior’. It was Thomas Harvey Babar, a young Company officer who was sub collector of Tellicherry who led the final assault against Pazhassi Raja in 1805. The manner in which they stood by him in life and in death was something remarkable. The hero’s greatest strength was that he was able command absolute loyalty of his upper caste subjects and the hill tribes at the same time. I hope this picture which is made in five languages would spread awareness about the legendary fight by Pazhassi Raja against the mighty Company (which, by then, had assumed the role of a government) among the people of India. One can be reasonably certain that with careful handling by this expert team, the movie would be good.
PAZHASSI RAJA MOVIE FULL
I have not seen the cinema, but heard Hariharan claim on the TV that full justice has been done to historical details. With a budget of Rs.27 crores, it is the costliest film ever made in Malayalam. It is crafted by MT Vasudevan Nair and Hariharan with Mammootty in the lead role and is produced by Gokulam Gopalan. The war between the two, which began in 1790s, lasted till 1805.Ī Malayalam movie based on him was released on October 16 and that has made history. This valiant warrior prince took up arms against the taxation policy of the British East India Company. By and large, the history books have bypassed Kerala Simham (Lion) Veera (Brave) Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja, the ruler of Kottayam in North Kerala towards the end of the 18c CE and beginning of 19c.
